This book is about taking an image, whether a drawing, painting, digital photograph, computer design or photocopy, and using simple methods to turn it into an embroidery or other piece of textile art. Straightforward use of the printer results in wonderful effects on both paper and fabric.

The book assumes a minimum of technical knowledge, preferring a swift, hands-on approach. However more detailed information is supplied in two appendices. Ideas are given for those in search of inspiration and the reader is taken through a variety of techniques for creating the images. These could range from producing a mixed media artwork and scanning it, to using digital photographs or imaging software. Very exciting effects can be achieved in this way.

Disp Maggie is so pleased and excited to have been able to include work by so many top embroiderers in this book.

The pic on the right was produced by scanning an existing embroidery and using a simple effect in a paint program.

The book includes:
  • inspiration and how to find it

  • the use of scanners and printers

  • wonderful work from well-known embroiderers

  • printing on a variety of papers
